Eger Region - Bükkalja, Eger, Mátraalja,

Around 60 kilometres to the east of Budapest rise the contours of the Mátra, from afar still reminiscent of a giant volcano. Leaving the Mátra behind and driving further along the M3 motorway, the level countryside of the Great Plain can still be seen to the right, with the lime stone bulk of the Bükk lying on the left. For a distance of one hundred kilometres, continuous vineyards are to be found on the southern slopes of the hills. Mátraalja, Eger and Bükkalja wine countries are listed under this region, the most famous wines being Eger Bikavér (Bull’s Blood), Eger Leányka, Debrő Hárslevelű and Olaszrízling. Of the international varieties, Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel and Tramini are prevalent, and of the varieties producing red wine, many have been experimenting with Pinot Noir in recent years. In Mátraalja, fragrant fruity wines are produced using reductive techniques. (more...)

   Survey
What do You know about Hungarian wine?

Really nothing, but I don't care.
Cheap wine from East-Europe.
Hungarian wines are getting better, they could be the surprise of the next years.
The only interesting is Tokaj.
I'd like to know more.
